We have been working on a product design project for the Irish Blood Transfusion Service for almost a year now, and we delivered the finished pieces today. They required leaflet holders for their mobile blood donor clinics that held A4 and DL sized flyers, where they wouldn't fall forward. It needed to be robust yet not too heavy. It also needed a neat, flexible cover that could be easily removed which held the flyers in place when in transit. What was also suggested was some kind of carrier that could transport the holders.
You can see what we came up with above, from early prototypes to the finished pieces. The actual holders consist of 10mm acrylic end gables with laser engraved IBTS branding. The sections to hold the leaflets are built from painted aluminium sheets. The cover is made from ballistic nylon with an integrated metal bar at the seam to secure in place when closed. The flight cases held 2 holders each. These were constructed from spruce plywood and aluminium. We cut out the 'giveblood.ie' logo in red vinyl on our cutter and placed it on the aluminium. They are lifted up and down using the single handle at the top and secured closed using 2 latches.
The process of making these involved a lot of problem solving which we enjoyed, and we hope the staff of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service find them convenient to use.
