We have begun working on a lighting project along with interior designers and architects Casson Mann and their development of Eneko restaurant at One Aldwych Hotel in Covent Garden, London opening this summer. Eneko at One Aldwych is an idea of Michelin-starred Chef Eneko Atxa, and is inspired by his restaurants Azurmendi, currently ranked 19 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. One Aldwych has won many awards including Best Boutique Hotel in the World, London Luxury Hotel of the Year and Best Hotel in London. We have been asked to produce 11 ceramic pendant fittings with a unique asymmetrical folded design for the restaurant. We have teamed up with Diem Pottery who will produce the shade in unglazed stoneware, while our job is to work on the finished clay piece installing the internal lighting elements and finding a way to balance the asymmetrical ceramic shape. We will be collaborating with the architects and lighting scheme designers, DHA Designs in London. We had great fun working with Thomas Diem yesterday in Ashbourne making prototypes in wet clay as you can see. This is a great vote of confidence for the international level of skill provided by Irish designers and craftspeople. We are looking forward to seeing this project develop at one of London's most acclaimed luxury hotels.
Yesterday we attended the opening of Só Collective at Kildare Village. This unique curation of both established and emerging designers, imagined by design studio ChanLegge and developed by Balubas, includes collections of fashion, lighting, ceramics, accessories, and textiles. It was great to get talking to those behind the whole concept and fellow designers and craftspeople. Our Wilde Cage floor light, Etang light, and the Tablín & Stoolín set are currently on display, if you're in the area be sure to pop in and see this great representation of Irish Design.

Have a look at how we create a fractal pattern by hand in the workshop on both black and silver aluminium. Inspired by the legendary roaring wave 'Tonn Ruraigh', this LED light is efficient and functional yet still sculptural. First designed in 2011, the Ruray was sent all around the world as it was seen as a new type of LED light and it won an IDEA award for Product Design. Now in 2016, we are continuing the evolution of the Ruray with these new fractal designs and different finishes.
The award-winning Ruray is available to order on our website here: http://www.shanehollanddesign.com/store/p8/Ruray.html. |
